How this is calculated

Scale factor = servings you need ÷ servings the recipe makes. Each amount is multiplied by it, and ranges like “2–3 cloves” scale at both ends.

Teaspoons, tablespoons and cups are converted to the easiest measure (3 tsp = 1 tbsp, 16 tbsp = 1 cup), so 2 tbsp doubled becomes ¼ cup. Lines without a number at the start, like “salt to taste”, stay as written.

Baking times, pan sizes and leavening don’t always scale in a straight line. For big changes, check doneness early.
